"Polk Street Shadows"

7x5" oil on masonite

It was a beautiful weekend in SF. So much color, such lovely light! Tried to keep this one thick and creamy. I read a quote where Peggi Kroll said she likes to paint as if she's frosting a cupcake. I love that.

I like this composition. The touches of red peeking through add a liveliness that really shows off against the cool blues.

That is a cool idea and you do it so well. I start getting mud and then have to let it dry a bit, before finishing up.

Great, thick paint and nice composition. Another artist that we both know, Tim Horn. kept repeating" big shapes, thick paint" at a november workshop I took with him. That phrase was in my head all night. An important one to remember.

Your simple shapes and color massing are really effective. My son lives in SF, so I especially love seeing images of the streets he walks!
