I painted this from an image taken at Silver Lake in the Sierra Nevada last October. There had been severe thunder and lightning all day but the storm passed and we had a beautiful sunset.

This is a painting of my younger brother James standing in front of our cottage at Cook's in South Wellfleet. It was painted indirectly from a slide. I projected the slide onto a door and then photographed the projection. I uploaded it to my computer so I was then able to crop the image and adjust the color.

I don't have many family slides, I wish I had more. Slides are different from photos in that they usually don't get seen as often. The few I have rarely get viewed due to the hassle of getting out the projector and dealing with the cartridges. Yes cartridges, my slide projector is an aqua colored Argus 300 from the mid sixties.

The other thing about slides is their projected size and illumination. They recreate the past so vividly. Viewing these images made me realize I have hit the age where I can easily be swept up in nostalgia. I decided to fully embrace the experience by listening to "Afternoon Delight" radio on Pandora while I painted this image.

I wanted to see how loose I could keep it and still have it look like a car. I discovered it's all in the highlights. It can be quite messy but once you put in the highlights it all comes together.

Mori Point is a beautiful spot about 15 minutes from home. Oddly enough, I only just discovered it.

Once again, I wasn't sure what street this was. I knew it was near Union Square, so I looked on Google maps and I clearly saw the tall building to the left. Geary Boulevard it is!

This is a study I did for the Burlingame paint out. I figured most painters would focus on the train station area so I went for something a bit different. I used this study to help me paint on the day of the event since the dawn effect doesn't last very long.

The San Benito House is an old hotel on Main Street in Half Moon Bay, California. And yes, it really is that color! I painted this for an upcoming show at the Coastside Land Trust Gallery.

I felt totally out of control while painting this so I was surprised that it actually sort of worked. There are so many reflective surfaces and light sources!
